“Point of Departure” was born of another painting. I often find interesting sections in previous paintings on which to base new work. The lines here seemed to divide the image in an appealing way so I used the strong dark lines as a starting point and the image developed from there.

I enjoy painting where I am led by the work and my intuition. This type of painting doesn’t always produce success but it has in this case. The blues and yellows are a good combination and the black and white add contrast. The title “Point of Departure” came to mind as I thought of how I found the design, but also, visually the design leads you outwards within the image. I like to think it could lead to things outside the image as well.

“Point of Departure” is ready to hang. You could also add a floating frame to this painting using Bluethumb’s professional framing service.
