I say all weather artist, but we didn’t have hail or snow! Anyway, on with day two.
Again, we set off early. Everything was wet and consequently colours were more intense. This time, we headed up the Horse Track and across the plateau to Kitchen Hut at the base of Cradle Mountain. (The track we avoided yesterday due to lightening.)

This colourful mix of vegetation isn’t far from the Waldheim huts. It’s just across Ronny Creek. I must remember this for the time when I can get my oils out.
Onward and upward. It’s a long, steady climb up to the plateau where there are views all around. This next photo is of the lookout at Crater Peak above Crater Lake.

And here’s my only sketch for the day, done at the lookout, looking towards Cradle Mountain.

Next stop Kitchen Hut for lunch. I sat there contemplating the line of bodies ascending Cradle. (It reminded me of the hoards heading up Everest or Uluru.) I was glad we weren’t going up. Somehow, I got this photo of the hut without anyone in the frame!

The walk back was via Marion’s Lookout (view below), along the main track used by tourists. Unfortunately, it’s not as conducive to lingering or sketching.

After the lookout, there’s a very sharp descent. Part way down, we saw a university graduate, in graduation garb, hat and all. He was with his family taking photos.
We turned off at that point to go back to Waldheim via Crater Lake (quicker and not as crowded). The best part runs beside a lovely creek with big old trees and a couple of waterfalls. A nice, gentle way to finish the day and the trip.

This shot is right at Waldheim. More painting material!
I wonder when I’ll get back there?
